Brasília hosts International Conference on Refugees

Delegations from all Latin American and Caribbean countries are meeting in Brasília to discuss solutions for existing challenges faced by refugees
Brazil's government and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) are holding cabinet meetings as part of the 30th anniversary of the Cartagena Declaration on Refugees (known as Cartagena+30).
The meetings will be taking place until Wednesday (Dec. 3) in Brasília, bringing together delegations from all Latin American and Caribbean countries to discuss an action plan with solutions for existing challenges faced by refugees, asylum-seekers, internally displaced, and stateless persons in the region.
The meeting will also pay honor to Colombia-based NGO Red Mariposas de Alas Nuevas Construyendo Futuro (Butterflies with New Wings Building a Future), which provides for women facing violence in Colombia. In late September, the NGO was granted the UNHCR Nansen Refugee Award in 2014, which is also known as the humanitarian Nobel prize.
