Lower criminal responsibility age to be discussed this week
Stalled for over 22 years in the hands of the Committee on Constitution, Justice, and Citizenship (CJJ), the constitutional amendment bill which lowers the age of criminal responsibility in Brazil from 18 to 16 years old will be brought under consideration on Wednesday (Apr 8). A special committee made up of 27 deputies and the same number of substitutes will start the debate on the same day.
It will be up to that team to discuss the bill, as well as hold public hearings on the reduction in the age of criminal responsibility and prepare an official report on the proposal before the ballot is held.
If approved, the bill, which was submitted for deliberation last week, will be sent for further consideration and a two-round vote at a plenary session at the Chamber of Deputies.
