Brazil fifth country with most online child sexual abuse reports

In 2024, Brazil was fifth on the list of countries with the most reports of pages distributing child sexual abuse content, as per a report by the InHope international network, released Thursday (Apr. 3).
From 2022 to 2024, the country saw notifications multiply and moved from 27th place to the current position. At the top are Bulgaria, the UK, the Netherlands, and .
Found in 51 countries, InHope uses data from 55 online crime hotlines. In Brazil, reports are received by SaferNet, which has worked in partnership with the Federal Prosecution Service since 2006.
Of the more than 50 thousand pages reported in Brazil, 10,823 were ed on to hotlines and authorities in other countries apparently because they involved victims of other nationalities. The figure also includes pages associated with crimes that seem not to have taken place in Brazil.
“Another 38,051 pages with signs of child sexual abuse were forwarded to the hotlines with the help of automated and proactive detection tools under the Discover project, totaling 48,874 different pages shared by SaferNet Brasil with other InHope member hotlines in 2024,” SaferNet stated.
Last year, 1,155 pages hosted in Brazil were also detected—equivalent to 0.05 percent of all pages with child sexual abuse material identified worldwide.
These pages are said to have been examined by the federal prosecutors.
Safernet maintains the National Complaints Center in partnership with Brazil’s Federal Prosecution Service and a helpline for victims of online violence.
