Petrobras blacklists contractors under bid rigging suspicion

Petrobras oil company announced a precautionary ban on contractors implicated in cartel allegations heard by courts as part of the probes on a large kickback and bid rigging scheme. All companies which had any of their executives or former executives imprisoned as a result of Operation Car Wash in November will be temporarily barred from bidding for and g contracts with Petrobras.
The decision was made following a meeting of the oil company's Executive Board on Monday (Dec. 29), a press statement said. The steps are intended to “protect the company and its partners' reputation and prevent liabilities,” the statement read. The blacklisted companies will be notified of the ban and will have the right to present their defense.
A total of 23 contractors are in the black list, including such large construction businesses as Alusa, Andrade Gutierrez, Camargo Corrêa, Carioca Engenharia, Construcap, Egesa, Engevix, Fidens, Galvão Engenharia, GDK, IESA, Jaraguá Equipamentos, Mendes Júnior, MPE, OAS, Odebrecht, Promon, Queiroz Galvão, Setal, Skanska, Techint, Tomé Engenharia, and UTC.
Petrobras's decision is based on testimonies heard from the company's own former downstream director Paulo Roberto Costa as well as from currency dealer Alberto Yousseff, Toyo Engineering's Julio Gerin de Almeida Camargo, and Setal's Augusto Ribeiro de Mendonça Neto.
Petrobras declared that it “reaffirms its commitment to ethics and ability in its business dealings and the need to enforce steps outlined in its Anti-Corruption Program Guide.”
