Unemployment rate at 4.8% in November
In Brazil, the unemployment rate for November stood at 4.8%, which is higher than that for October (4.7%) and November last year (4.6%). Data can be found at the Monthly Survey on Employment (PME, in its Portuguese acronym), published today (Dec 19) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics.
The figures are based on the economically active population (over 10 years old) in the six metropolitan regions surveyed.
The unemployed segment of the population totaled 1.2 million people in the month, which represents no significant difference from October (1.1 million). This is the number of people who lost their jobs or stopped looking for employment in the period.
The number of employed persons was reported at 23.4 million in the six metropolitan regions covered by IBGE's study.
The amount of people with a formal job in the private sector was also observed to remain steady—11.8 million.
