In a statement made Monday (Mar. 27) Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply announced the interruption of the operations at two other meatpacking plants targeted by Operation Weak Flesh—Souza Ramos, in Colombo, and Transmeat, in Balsa Nova, both of which in the southern state of Paraná.

The two processing plants are among the 21 under scrutiny as part of the Federal Police probe launched on March 17 to investigate irregularities in the production of processed meats and their byproducts, as well as in quality inspections in the sector.

Three other units had their operations brought to a halt by ministry authorities on March 17: the units of Peccin Agro Industrial, in Curitiba (Paraná) and Jaraguá do Sul (Santa Catarina), where sausages are produced; as well as that of BRF (which controls Sadia, Perdigão, and other brand names), where the slaughter of poultry is carried out.

The ministry did not specify the reasons behind the move. Agriculture Minister Blairo Maggi will grant a press conference this afternoon to talk about the achievements of the probe.
