Slave-like labor: 155 employers added to “dirty list”

The Ministry of Labor and Employment updated the of Employers who have subjected workers to slave-like conditions on Wednesday (Apr. 9), adding 155 new names. The latest publication now includes a total of 745 entries.

The economic activities with the highest number of included employers are cattle ranching, coffee farming, and domestic work.

Also known as the “dirty list” of slave-like labor, the is updated every six months to ensure transparency in the efforts of labor inspectors to combat the issue. The most recent update was released in October 2024.

According to André Esposito Roston, general coordinator of the Inspection for the Eradication of Slave-like Labor and Human Trafficking, the plays a crucial role in informing society about the identification and rescue of victims of slavery-like conditions, which unfortunately continue to persist in Brazil.

“Each time the is updated, we have the opportunity to inform the public about the victims rescued, those responsible for the exploitation, and the importance of collective efforts to eradicate this issue, including reporting it to the Ministry of Labor via the official Ipê System channel,” Roston stated.

Companies and employers

According to a statement from the ministry, the names listed are those of companies and employers who have undergone finalized istrative processes that are no longer subject to appeal.

Following an incident, “a specific infraction notice is issued detailing the situation of slavery-like conditions. Each notice initiates an istrative process, during which employers are guaranteed the right to defend themselves, present arguments, and appeal in two instances,” the statement reads.

Once included, a name remains on the list for two years, as stipulated by the normative instruction regulating the . On Friday (Apr. 4), 120 names that had reached this period were removed.
