FIFA starts disciplinary proceedings against Uruguay’s Luis Suárez

Italy's Giorgio Chiellini complains after Uruguay's Luis Suarez ran into his shoulder with his teeth during the soccer match between Italy and Uruguay at the Arena das Dunas
FIFA confirmed early in the morning today (Jun 25) that officials have started disciplinary proceedings against Uruguayan striker Luis Suárez, who allegedly bit the shoulder of Italian defender Chiellini during Uruguay’s 1-0 match against Italy. The victory earned the South-American squad a spot in the round of 16.
According to FIFA, the player himself and the Uruguayan Football Association have been given a deadline of 5 pm (UTC-3) this afternoon (25) to present documentary evidence in Suárez’s defense. The sport's governing body further announced in a note that the football player is being charged over an “apparent” breach of articles 48 and 57 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, regarding misconduct and violence.
It is the job of FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee to sanction major violations which might have escaped the eyes of the referees. Reports from referees, statements made by the parties as well as witnesses, and also video recordings may serve as evidence. In spite of Mexican referee Marco Rodríguez’s not having called a foul when the incident happened, television cameras caught the moment of the bite within the Italian penalty area.
This was the third time Suárez was was seen biting a fellow player during a match. For the two previous occasions, he was punished with a two- and a ten-day suspension from football games, respectively.
