FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee has banned Uruguay’s striker Luis Suárez from nine of his team’s official matches. The sanction goes into effect on day scheduled for the country’s next game, against Colombia, on Saturday (Jun 28) at 5 pm, at Maracanã. This means Suárez is out of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
The committee also ruled that Suárez will to remain suspended for four months from any football-related activity. He bit Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini on the shoulder during a match held last Tuesday (24) at Arena Dunas, in Natal. Uruguay defeated the Italian team 1-0 and advanced to the round of 16.
Aside from the sanction, Luis Suárez has been fined 100 thousand Swiss francs (around $110 thousand), and is not allowed on the premises of any football stadium during the suspension period.
