The Ministry of Labor and Employment released today (Feb 3) the figures on last year's Food For Workers Program (PAT, in its Portuguese acronym). Over 18 million workers were benefited, more than 15 million of whom with an income of up to $1,456, the equivalent of five minimum wages in Brazil.

The data also indicate that over 205 thousand companies have ed the program.

PAT was regularized in 1991, and aims to improve the eating habits of the low-income population. In exchange for their participation, companies are given fiscal incentives and tax exemptions.
