Brazilian singer-songwriter Belchior to be buried in Fortaleza today

Brazilian singer-songwriter Belchior will be buried at Parque da Paz cemetery in Fortaleza, Ceará, at 9am today (May 2). Yesterday (1), a funeral was held in his hometown Sobral, and another one took place in Fortaleza.

Belchior died of natural causes after an aortic rupture, reports Police Chief Raquel Schneider, who was overseeing the coroner's inquest.

One of the icons of Brazil's music, Belchior had gained prominence in recent years not only for the lasting success of his songs, but also for having remained completely out of the stage and media spotlight since 2009, when his whereabouts became a mystery.

The government of Ceará state and the cities of Sobral and Fortaleza declared a three-day mourning  for his death.
