Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is expected to unveil a rise in the funding allocated to public school meals nationwide.
A ceremony will be held at the Planalto presidential palace, in Brasília, starting at 3 pm today (Mar. 10).
As it stands today, the values are BRL 0.36 for elementary and high-school students, BRL 1.07 for kids in day care and full-time education, BRL 0.53 for preschoolers, BRL 0.64 for students in indigenous and quilombola schools, and BRL 0.32 for those in youth and adult education.
Last month, Minister of Education Camilo Santana reported that the new values should exceed the inflation accrued since the last rise, but did not disclose the exact percentages.
