Rousseff attends EU-Brazil Summit in Belgium
President Dilma Rousseff is going to the 7th EU-Brazil Summit on Monday (Feb. 24) for a meeting with the president of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, and the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso.
Rousseff set off for Europe on Friday (21), when she met Pope Francis in Rome for the third time ever since he rose to papacy in March 2013. She asked him to convey a message of peace and against prejudice in the World Soccer Cup in Brazil. After the meeting, the president told reporters that she was glad that Rio Archbishop Orani Tempesta was appointed cardinal. “I think he was a well-deserved choice as a man of faith, a person of great ability, generosity, and concern for social movements and the poor,” she said.
On Saturday (22), the president attended consistory, the formal celebration that created the new cardinals in St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City.
