Temer: Chinese entrepreneurs seeking to expand investments in Brazil

President Michel Temer meets the president of the HNA business group Chen Feng.
Brazil's President Michel Temer arrived in Beijing on Thursday morning (Aug. 31) to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Chinese investors before attending the 9th BRICS Summit on September 3-5 in Xiamen. The BRICS bloc is made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
Temer will present Chinese authorities and business leaders with a package of tender and privatization plans for airports, ports, highways, and transmission lines launched by the Brazilian government last week, which includes the sale of part of Eletrobras, a state-owned holding company that controls Brazil's electricity sector.
Following a meeting with the top officers of state-owned power giants State Grid Corporation of China and China Three Gorges Corporation, Huawei telecom company, and the HNA business group, Temer said the business leaders are interested in pursuing new investments.
“Four big Chinescompanies want to expand their investments in Brazil, which shows their extraordinary confidence in our country, the energy, electricity, and mining sector,” he said.
According to the president, Brazil is picking up growth momentum again after several challenging months, and Chinese entrepreneurs know this. “You know investors don't risk their money unless they know exactly what is going on with the country,” he added.
About the meeting with President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang on Friday (Sept. 1), Temer said the purpose is to further business, political, and cultural relations between Brazil and China.
