Brazil has new planning minister

Brasília -The new planning minister said “no management is good without control.”
The new minister of planning, budget, and management, Valdir Simão, pledged to continue the work towards improving the management and the excellence in the use of government resources, but, he said, the search for quality in public spending will not be enough to restore fiscal balance. In his view, the fiscal reform is necessary to meet the goals set by the government.
“Making adjustments to management isn't enough to achieve fiscal balance. The fiscal reform is important and the Ministry of Planning will make its contribution,” he argued. Simão, former head of the CGU, the Office of the Inspector General of the Union, is now taking the post left by Nelson Barbosa, who was appointed Wealth Minister in Joaquim Levy's place.
The new planning minister said “no management is good without control,” and that, to achieve that goal, he will rely on CGU's help. “Despite the great challenge, I'm convinced we have the tools, the team, and the technology to do quality work for the benefit of the Brazilian public service and the citizens,” he said.
