Rousseff wants realistic goals from new ministers and growth recovery

Brasília - The ministers took office Monday (Dec. 21).
President Dilma Rousseff asked new Ministers Nelson Barbosa and Valdir Simão—now heads of Finance, and Planning, Budget and Management, respectively—to work with realistic and feasible goals and do what they can to recover growth.
The ministers took office Monday (Dec. 21) and received three immediate instructions from the president: to work with realistic and feasible goals in order to bolster credibility, to seek to stabilize and consistently reduce the public debt, and to do whatever is necessary for a smooth recovery of growth.
“We need to go beyond cutting spending and settling our s, setting priorities for the restoration of growth and the construction of a reliable environment for investment as well. Sorting out our public s still include crucial tasks that haven't been carried out yet. There are paramount measures to be approved without which balance can't be maintained and the recovery of growth will be made much more difficult,” she argued.
Rousseff pointed out that talks are still to be held with Congress regarding the approval of important bills, like the return of the Provisional Tax on Financial Transactions (MF in the original acronym), which would help curb the social security deficit and carry out the social security reform in a bid to ensure sustainability in the medium and long term.
The cabinet swap was announced on Friday (18). Nelson Barbosa replaced Joaquim Levy as Finance Minister. In his place as head of planning, the president appointed former Inspector General of the Union Valdir Simão.
