Temer criticizes animosity and argues for pacification of Brazil

Temer said the country is experiencing troubled times in which the Armed Forces can contribute significantly
In a speech that highlighted the role of the Armed Forced in public security, President Michel Temer advocated the pacification of the country and criticized the “animosity” among Brazilians. Temer once again called for the “elimination of the anger” among the sectors of society and praised the “moral authority” of the Brazilian military in ensuring domestic peace.
The statements were made today (May 11) during an event at the Army headquarters in Brasília, where Temer signed a decree creating the Committee for the Revitalization of the National Park of the Guarapapes, in Jaboatão dos Guararapes, in the metropolitan region on Recife.
The president mentioned “the extraordinary role” played by the Armed Forces, which, despite “being ready for war,” represent “the symptom of peace” and the “absolute respect of the traditions of our history.”
Temer said the country is experiencing troubled times in which the Armed Forces can contribute significantly. “I make a point of stressing this aspect because we have been living a moment of a certain animosity among Brazilians, which is deplorable. I can't repeat this enough, because it seems important for me to preach, as I am the president.”
“And the preaching I've been doing over the course of time regards nothing else than the pacification among Brazilians—to eliminate the anger among the sectors of Brazilian society. This is why I reiterate that the Armed Forces represent just how crucial peace is,” he added.
