Bruno Pereira and Dom Phillips are honored by the Chamber of Deputies

They received a medal for defending the Amazon and the natives

Indigenist Bruno Pereira and British journalist Dom Phillips - murdered in June of this year in Vale do Javari, in the Amazon - were honored with the Medal of Legislative Merit, awarded by the Chamber of Deputies, in Brasília, on Wednesday (7).

In a solemn session in the House plenary, they were represented by their wives, anthropologist Clarisse Jabour and Alessandra Farias Sampaio, respectively.  "Their legacy in defense of the native peoples and the Amazon will never be forgotten," said the deputy Reginaldo Lopes on his Twitter .

The medal

Created in 1983, the medal is awarded to authorities, personalities, institutions or entities, campaigns, programs or movements of a social, civil or military nature, nationals or foreigners, who have rendered relevant services to the Legislative Power or to Brazil.
