Armed Forces hand out flowers in Rio favela on Women’s Day
Military agent hands out flower to local woman in the Vila Kennedy favela.
As part of the operation to bring stability to Vila Kennedy, a favela in Western Rio de Janeiro, the military agents distributed a thousand roses to local women on Thursday (Mar. 8).
According to military spokesman Colonel Carlos Cinelli, the act seizes the opportunity to celebrate Women’s Day in the favela, “in a gesture expressing the wish for peace, symbolizing a hand held out offering protection.”
“Life must go on, and today is a day to celebrate and be thankful. Women are the heads of half of the homes in Brazil and in the favelas their role is even more important in education and in the teaching of values to children, in an effort to prevent them from being recruited by criminals.”
Colonel Cinelli explained that the flowers had been donated by an executive (who asked for his name not to be revealed) in of the intervention. He went on to note that women are also of the Armed Forces, and occupy ing positions like those of doctors, vets, and lawyers, but added they also do field work. In the intervention currently being conducted, most have been stationed at the Integrated Center for Command and Control.
